EFI 617 – MEASUREMENT OF ENERGY EXPENDITURE IN HUMAN ACTIVITIES

Theoretical foundations of health characteristics associated with energy expenditure and epidemiological aspects; Importance of energy expenditure measurements and their applications; Principles of energy balance; Basal and resting metabolism; Thermic effect of food; Physical activity; Laboratory techniques for direct and indirect measurement of energy expenditure; Field techniques for direct and indirect measurement of energy expenditure.

EFI 621 – THERMOREGULATION AND PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE

Thermoregulation: historical perspectives; Study of body temperature control mechanisms at rest; Study of body temperature control mechanisms during physical exercise; Thermoregulation and physical performance in extreme environments; Special topics in thermoregulation; Measurement methods in thermoregulation research.
Credits: 4 (60 hours)


EFI 622 – MORPHOPHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF STRENGTH TRAINING

Physiological and morphological mechanisms responsible for different manifestations of muscle strength; Different levels of adaptation of the body subjected to strength training; Morphological and physiological effects resulting from different strength training strategies; Acute and chronic morphological and physiological effects of strength training in different populations.

EFI 623 – SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS AND META-ANALYSES

Types of Reviews; Introduction to Systematic Review and Meta-analysis; Steps for conducting a Systematic Review; Meta-analysis; Critical Reading of Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses.

EFI 628 – PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY FOR SPORTS PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

Procedures for evaluating the main physical qualities in sports; Anthropometric assessment techniques applied to sports; Exercise prescription for competition performance; Handling of key instruments in a physiology laboratory for athlete assessment; Instrument calibration procedures; Use of new technologies for training load monitoring.
Credits: 6 (90 hours)


NUT646 – BIOSTATISTICS APPLIED TO NUTRITION

Importance, objectives, and uses of Biostatistics in scientific research; Biostatistics concepts and data analysis in health; Types of variables and levels of measurement; Descriptive statistics applied to health; Inferential statistics applied to health; Main parametric tests of interest in scientific health research; Main non-parametric tests of interest in scientific health research; Introduction to sample size calculation for scientific research in health.
Credits: 5 (75 hours)


EFI 776 – TEACHING INTERNSHIP I

This course aims to provide graduate students with teaching experience at the undergraduate level, including planning, preparation, and teaching of theoretical and practical classes under the supervision of the course coordinator.
